Narbonne and Torrance have been at each other’s throats for decades now. In years prior the Gauchos have had their share of victories against our beloved Tartars, though Torrance HIgh has also managed their allotment of wins.
Last year was one of the years where we put forth our best but unfortunately couldn’t bring home the gold; with Narbonne winning by a final score of 14 to 7. This year Tartar Football came back with a vengeance.
Coach Raymond Carter made a point to work hard with boys, reminding them that as the first game of the season this game would set the tone for all other schools about how Torrance High Football is as an opponent.
The game came August 18th, before even the first day of school. As the game started, the crowd full of excited students and proud parents cheered the boys on. In the first half, running back number 22, Ryan Young, rushed down the field to make the first touchdown of the game. However, Narbonne would be no easy match.
The game soon grew tense when unexpectedly a Gaucho shot to the endzone to score a touchdown for their own team. As the second half arrived the game remained at a stalemate.
The Tartars finished with more drive and push. Christopher Ramirez kicked a field goal putting the Tartars up for good. The guests on the field put up a fight but ultimately weren’t able to defeat the mighty Tartars on their home field. By all means Torrance High Football brought home the first victory of the season with a final score of 10 to 7.
