Girls Varsity Soccer Quarter Final

Girls Varsity Soccer Quarter Final

After earning 1st pioneer and going undefeated in the League with 12 wins, the Torrance High Girls Varsity Soccer Team entered the Quarter Final game for CIF matched up with the Palos Verdes Sea Kings at Zamperini Stadium.

Earlier in the season the Torrance Tartars and the Palos Verdes Sea Kings competed against each other in a game that ended in a 2-2 tied score.

Unfortunately, at this game against Palos Verdes on Valentine’s Day the Tartars ultimately engaged in a competitively intense game ending in a 1-0 score: Tartars on the defeated end.

For the entire first half and most of the second half, PV and Torrance captured the crowd in an emotional rollercoaster: exciting them as they came close to making a goal, only to be blocked by the opposing team.

Although late in the second half a Tartar defender mistakenly committed a hand-ball violation, giving the Sea Kings the chance to make a penalty kick.

Moreover, PV did not let the opportunity go to waste: PV midfielder Lane Flanagan successfully gained a point—which would be the conclusive factor for their eventual win.

With this unfortunate circumstance the Tartars were withdrawn from the running for a CIF championship win this year, and as such would not be entering the State Championship games either. Even so, without the prospects of a championship, the Girls Soccer team has progressed a lot this year and has many accolades to show for it.

The Torrance High Girls Varsity Soccer Team finished their season ranked in the top 100 high school teams in the nation—having hoisted themselves up over 100 places since last season—

and in the top 30 in California.
