Last Saturday, the Major League Soccer Cup final played out between Inter Miami and Vancouver. Miami came out on top 3-1, marking their first-ever MLS Cup title.
An obvious key contender to the win was Lionel Messi, 10- time La Liga champion, 4- time Champions League champion, 8- time Ballon d’Or winner, World Cup champion, and much, much more. Messi assisted teammates Rodrigo De Paul and Tadeo Allende for two goals and was awarded Man of the Match. The matchup was thrilling from start to finish, with both teams playing a great game. Miami scored in the first 8 minutes, then Vancouver tied the match at the 60-minute mark, keeping Inter fans worried that at any time Vancouver could grab the lead. Soon after, Miami gained the lead and secured the win.
Both teams had a great playoff run, Inter finishing with 65 points in the Eastern Conference, and Vancouver with 63 points in the Western Conference. In the Western Conference, Vancouver cleared out their semi-finals and conference final opponents for their first-ever appearance in the MLS Cup. And Miami isn’t the only MLS club with prodigies from Europe; German star Thomas Müller, straight from Bayern Munich, has been playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps since this August.
Adding to the historical occasion, honorable players Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba shared their last time playing professional soccer on the Miami pitch before retirement. Both players had outstanding careers, spending many years at Barcelona playing alongside Messi. Busquets is known as one of the best midfielders in modern soccer history, while Alba is called one of the best attacking full-backs of his era; both players will leave long-lasting legacies to the new generation of soccer today.
The 2025 MLS Cup will go down in history. Inter Miami
won their first title, G.O.A.T Lionel Messi added another trophy to his legendary career, and two soccer icons retired, all marking milestones that will make this matchup unforgettable.
