After a historical league season of going undefeated 10-0, finishing first in the Pioneer League after 17 years, defeating rivals North High after 10 years, and Redondo Union for the first time 3 years, the 2025 Torrance High football season has officially come to an end.
Last Friday the Tartars put up a strong fight against the Redondo Union Seahawks in their first game of the CIF season but unfortunately fell short, losing 21-14.
“This season taught me that our greatest competition and downfall can be ourselves sometimes, and we just need to put our heads down and work together as a family to get through things,” said junior wide receiver Elias Emerson, reflecting on the great season. Emerson led the team in receiving yards, averaging 73.2 yards per game.
The game began with Torrance kicking off to Redondo. Quickly following, quarterback Gibson Turner completed a 50-yard pass to Emerson for the first touchdown of the night, putting the Tartars in the lead 7-0.
In the second quarter, the Seahawks struck back with a 12-yard pass for a touchdown.Tying the game 7-7.
With three minutes left in the first half, the Seahawks scored again with a 60-yard rushing touchdown, increasing their lead to 14-7. Tartar fans were on edge but remained hopeful for a comeback.
Early into the second half, Turner and Emerson returned for a second touchdown, throwing for 15 yards into the endzone. Turner had an outstanding season, finishing with 2086 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and a 66% completion rate.
Emerson noted afterward, “We’ve done a lot of great things from both sides of the ball with us scoring and getting stops.”
Early into the fourth quarter, Redondo scored their final touchdown, sealing the game at 21-14
Tackle/guard Zach Williams described the matchup as a “dogfight”, saying the season taught him “how to get over adversity and how to handle being a good team.”
Although the season ended with a tough loss, it was still a remarkable year for the Tartars, one that will be remembered for its historical success.
