The boys in blue did it again! After an intense World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays that went into Game 7 AND extra innings, the Los Angeles Dodgers came out on top and became the 2025 World Series champions.
Not only did they become champions, but they also became back-to-back World Series champions having previously won the title last year. The Dodgers are the first team to have consecutive championships since the New York Yankees in 1998-2000. This win has resulted in the Dodgers winning 3 of the past 6 World Series.
This World Series did not disappoint at all and was definitely one for the books. Both teams put up hard fought battles all throughout the historic series. This resulted in the whole series going back and forth between the two teams and leaving fans at the edge of their seats each game. The series also included two games, Game 3 and Game 7, that went into extra innings.
Game 3 was extraordinary for many reasons. The game went on for an astonishing 18 innings as a typical full game only goes on for 9 innings. This game went down as one of the longest postseason games in Major League Baseball (MLB) history. The game went into extra innings after the score was tied 5-5. During extra innings, both teams had plenty of opportunities to score the game-winning run, as many base runners were left stranded. Many Dodger pitchers like future hall-of-famer Clayton Kershaw and Will Klein, who was recently just added to the active World Series roster, all played key roles in shutting down Toronto for the rest of the game. It all came down to Freddie Freeman hitting a walk-off home run to center field to give the Dodgers the win, giving fans flashbacks from last season when he hit a walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
Game 7 was also an incredible game that could have gone either way. The LA team trailed in the beginning of the game after Bo Bichette hit a 3-run homer to give the Blue Jays the lead. After a few more runs from each team, the game ended up 3-4 at the top of the 9th inning. This is where things got interesting. With 1 out on the board and 2 outs away from losing the whole series, Miguel Rojas came in clutch and blasted a homerun to tie the game 4-4. For Jonathan Uno, a Dodger fan at Torrance High, he recalls watching this home run as being “so nervous that it didn’t even hit me that he just tied the game.” Andy Pages collided with Kike Hernandez to make a nerve-racking catch to take the game into extra innings. The Dodgers brought out Yoshinobu Yamamoto to help the team seal the win. Yamamoto had a dominant performance in this postseason and especially this series as he pitched for 2 complete games and ended 3-0 in wins and with a 1.02 ERA (earned run average). At the top of the 11th inning with 2 outs, Will Smith hit a solo home run to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. Finally, after a double play by the Dodgers’ infielders, the Dodgers won the World Series and completed their mission of becoming back-to-back champions.
Without a surprise, Yamamoto took home the World Series MVP after such a fantastic performance he has had this series. Uno’s favorite memory of the World Series was “seeing Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s dominance” and what he considers “probably the greatest pitching performance in the World Series ever.” Uno also goes on to say how “as a Japanese Dodger fan, it feels cool seeing three asian players that I can relate to” on the team.
With the back-to-back World Series championships, many people believe that this is only the beginning of a dynasty for this one-of-a-kind team. During their celebration at Dodger Stadium, players and manager Dave Roberts, have already made it known that they seek to three-peat next season. So I guess it is true, they are really “Not Like Us”.
