On the early morning of October 20, 2025, Torrance High seniors gathered together at Zamperini Stadium to meet the rising sun, marking another year of THS traditions. Even though there were several complaints about having to wake up early, it was worth the trouble of leaving their warm beds to go to the frigid cold stadium. Many seniors reported that there actually was a beautiful sunrise to watch, and were fortunate to have little overcast. Senior Sunrise is a tradition in many high schools, and Torrance High is no exception. For years, the seniors have been going to Zamperini before most of them are fully awake, and watching the sunrise together. Senior sunrise is usually a way of uniting your grade and making memories. This is one of the first of many memories the seniors will make together this year.
Elliotte Kira reports, “The senior sunrise was really amazing. I really enjoyed hanging out with my friends, taking pictures, and watching the sunset. It was so beautiful. My favorite part was probably spending all that time with the people I’ve known since freshman year.” A big part about the sunrise is just making use of the time left you have with your peers. This marks a monumental moment in senior year, as the dawn of a new era-the final chapter of high school.
Senior sunrise is a modern tradition that originated in the U.S, spreading through social media. Alexander Tollens, a foreign exchange student from Belgium, says, “They don’t have senior sunrise in Europe, so it was very special to experience it here, and I made so many memories.”
After a fun morning of sunrise, the seniors headed to IHOP for a fundraiser, where they ended the morning with pancakes and crepes, bringing the end to the morning and the start of a new chapter in these seniors’ lives.
