Last week at Torrance was filled with a variety of fun events. From the blood drive to Halloween, Torrance High celebrated and participated in fun activities to end the month with a bang!
The blood drive on Wednesday was a way to get students here at Torrance to give something we sometimes take for granted-our blood. Liam Kim, a junior here at Torrance says, “It was really chill, the nurse was very nice, and it was good to know that I’m saving people who need it.” Sometimes we overlook our good health, and having the opportunity to give away something we have for free is very special.
Another thing Torrance High did last week was Red Ribbon Week, bringing awareness to drugs and the harm they cause. The school was beautifully decorated in red posters, banners, and paper plates along the breezeway. They had quotes and sayings, warning of the danger of drugs. Some of the posters read, “Get high on grades, not drugs,” and another one read, “Stay alive to feel the real high in life.” My favorite quote said, “Real strength is saying No, when everyone else is saying Yes.” This quote embodies the true power in saying no, and resisting peer pressure. Red Ribbon Week is a good reminder to all of us, that our future is at risk when we put drugs first.
Another fun-filled event last week was the Tartar Pumpkin Carving Contest. Many school clubs participated in the school-wide contest; the winners were Tartar Ladies, Tartar Knights, Maroon Monsoon, and Freshmen Class Council. Tartar Knights won funniest, Tartar Ladies won most creative, Maroon Monsoon won scariest, and Freshmen Council won best overall.
