A historic game was recorded for Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In Game 4 of the National League championship series, he did something no one has ever done before. It was an amazing performance and one that has never been done by anyone before. He is a unique player and one who will always be remembered. This game was one of the most memorable nights in Dodger history, and a great memory for all Shohei fans.
Shohei Ohtani is a pitcher but is also a designated hitter. It is very uncommon for pitchers to hit. Most pitchers only focus on pitching and pitching only since it is such a great and tiring task. There is also a stereotype that “pitchers can’t hit,” but this was debunked by Ohtani himself, as he is one of the top hitters in the National League, leading off for the LA Dodgers as they continue their successful season.
Shohei pitched a scoreless six innings. Not only did he pitch six scoreless innings, but he had 10 strikeouts as well. And to top it all off, he went up to bat and hit three home runs consecutively. Pitching and striking out major league baseball players, keeping them scoreless, is ihumane, but to put the icing on the cake, hitting three home runs in a row as well is even crazier. He was three for three getting a hit at every at-bat, which is a great stat, since a majority of players are not as consistent. Not only were his scores just homeruns, his second homerun cleared the stadium, traveling 469 feet, proving to the viewers that he is out of this world.
Hitting his second home run made him the first ever major league baseball player to hit two home runs in a postseason game as a pitcher. Hitting his third home run only added to the excellence of this game, making him the first ever Dodger player with three home runs and 10 strikeouts in a game in both season and postseason.
Dodger fan Elise Martinez stated that, “His strength overall in doing both really shows how powerful he is,,” and she also said it shows, “how much he’s grown from the regular season to the postseason,”
Another Dodger fan, Abby Montenegro, also stated, “He’s a great athlete with two sides to his game and the best player on the Dodgers.”
Dodger fan Jonathan Uno said that game was “the greatest game he has ever seen” and said Ohtani’s game was “the greatest accomplishment in sports history and no other athlete could ever accomplish something like that.”
This game completed the sweep, making them National League champions and sending them to the World Series for the third time in five years.
