Country music’s newest star, Ella Langley, is making history with her hit single “Choosin’ Texas,” released on October 17th of last year. So far, Langley’s breakout single has spent six weeks at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. Country music legend Miranda Lambert helped write the song with Langley. “Choosin’ Texas” even surpassed records that Taylor Swift previously held. And this isn’t just it for Ella Langley.
Langley also released a song named “Be Her,” which is currently placed at number 8 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. According to an article by Billboard, “Langley becomes the second woman to chart two titles in the top 10 of the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs”. Both songs are now featured on her latest sophomore album, “Dandelion,” which country music fans are buzzing about because of the feelings that many fans can relate to.
The viral song “Choosin Texas” tells of unrequited love. One of the special things about the song is the catchy melody that keeps the song stuck in your head. Kylie Hernandez, a Junior at Torrance High who loves country music, describes “Choosin’ Texas” as “a very fun song”. “Choosin Texas” has even inspired its own line dance. Abby Montenegro, a sophomore at Torrance High, similarly shares, “I love this song because it is so calming and for many girls it is relatable. Ella Langley’s voice is very soothing, and her lyrics are catchy to sing to.”
Previously, Langley was best known for her song “You Look Like You Love Me,” featuring well-known country artist Riley Green. It was through “Choosin Texas” that Langley truly made her presence known not only in country music but all over the music world. For many country fans, including myself. Seeing Langley succeed was truly satisfying, but it was also shocking to see the song skyrocket since she was a small artist when the song gained popularity. “I was shocked to see so much success because Ella Langley is a new upcoming country singer, and I’m happy to see her having success,” mentioned Hernandez. The song is even heard across social media platforms as Montenegro explains, “It has easily gained popularity through TikTok”.
Having a country music song succeed like “Choosin Texas” brings country music the hype that many people, like myself, think it deserves. Montenegro could also agree, as she expresses, “Country music is SO underrated, people think all country songs are boring and have the same rhythm. Country music is very relatable and something calming to listen to.” Another misconception that country fans could agree with is that “people already have a picture of what they think it is before even listening to it,” Hernandez says. Many people don’t know or forget that there are various types of country music, including pop country, traditional country, and many more. Montenegro hopes that “country artists can be recognized by the Grammys and big awards as well.”
