If you’ve ever driven down Crenshaw street to where Torrance’s Towne Center is a year or so back, you might have noticed the fast food chain called Jack in the Box congruent to you. But it has been recently replaced with a shiny new building which now reads: “The Habit: Burger Grill, Now open”.
This change brought about many customers ready to consume the “Double Char” the #1 burger in California according to USA Today. One of those customers being me. I arrived at The Habit at around 1 o’clock after Sunday mass. The overall atmosphere was clean and fresh, and represented California in a unique way. Similar to how In-N-Out have their signature palm trees and 50’s diner styled interior, The Habit hung paintings of watercolor surfers and landscapes of beaches on their walls. I saw many families and groups of friends enjoying their afternoon there. Someone was even getting some work done with a laptop under the patio umbrellas.
This area is a great place for students to study, socialize, and eat. You can bask in the sun on the outside patio seating area or take it to go in their drive thru. I only waited between 5-10 minutes for my order to be ready.
Unlike other fast food chains they utilize a buzzer to tell you when your meal is ready. I found the service at the front to be very polite and friendly. They greeted my family and I with a smile before and after giving us out food. But most importantly the burger’s there were fresh and flavorful. You could tell the buns hadn’t been frozen and the tomatoes were fresh and juicy.
What also piqued my interest about this restaurant is that it was started in California’s Santa Fe, similar to In-N-Out’s origins, but they began in Baldwin Park. But in contrast to the iconic Californian restaurant, The Habit recently beat In-N-Out‘s top spot as “Best Burger Served” in USA Today’s list in July of 2024. So if you are looking for a great burger and place to eat it, go to Torrance Towne Centers new The Habit location.
