Jonah Lopez was making his way to the Cafeteria when he encountered students with popsicles in hand. He then went to the gym and noticed seniors handing them out before getting one for himself.
“I think I got a grape, ya grape- ya it was good” he noted.
After a heat wave, Tatars were greeted with cold sweet treats during lunch for Wellness Wednesday. The ASB council members held Gatorade dispensers filled with the popsicles while walking throughout campus. Students flocked to them as the sweet treats (with flavors such as pina colada, cotton candy, fruit punch, and more) were being distributed.
But what came about to have this popsicle Wellness Wednesday happen? The idea for this event was pitched by Kaya Herndon, the ASB Human Relations (one of the service clubs on campus) representative.
“We called it ‘beat the heat’ and it was basically a thank you from ASB for making it through the super hot week,” she explained.
This idea came in perfect timing as a heatwave had hit the Torrance community the week before, the school reaching temperatures in the high 90’s. It was a fun way to spread positivity for the day and build community throughout the campus!
