Torrance secured a dominant 31-0 win over Peninsula in their Homecoming game last Friday, improving their record to 7-0. The Tartars still remain undefeated as they near the end of the regular season.
In the middle of the first quarter, the Tartars scored to take an early 7-0 lead.
This wasn’t it for the Tartars in the first. With about 4 minutes left, Senior Kaeson Pressley completed a 2-yard rushing touchdown to increase their lead to 14-0.
After a back-and-forth 2nd quarter and a pair of fumble recoveries from both teams, the score remained 14-0 going into halftime.
Late in the third quarter, Junior quarterback Gibson Turner made a series of crucial passes, which soon led to Pressley scoring his second touchdown on a 1-yd rushing touchdown to increase the shutout to 21-0.
Turner completed 11 out of 18 passes for the night, covering 145 passing yards.
About midway through the fourth quarter, Pressley made a great run, ending up on Peninsula’s 20-yard line. A couple of minutes later, he once again scored on a 13-yard rushing touchdown to expand the lead to 28-0
Pressley capped off the game with an excellent performance, totaling 116 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.
Finally, to seal the win, the Tartars scored a 27-yard field goal to finish the game 31-0, completing the shutout.
Despite the shutout against this Panthers team, players thought there was still room for improvement. “Our performance could have been better. We could have executed better.” said Junior wide receiver Isaac Mora.
The biggest takeaway for Junior Running Back Vaughn Reinert was “stay humble and don’t take your opponent lightly,”.
This Friday (October 17th) at 7 pm, the Tartars are away and take on the South Spartans, who are currently 3-4 for the season. Go and cheer on our team as the boys seek to continue their winning streak and remain undefeated.
