Spirit Week is always a fun week to get students hyped for upcoming events here at Torrance High. This week, students dressed up every day showing their Torrance pride. It’s exciting to dress up as something different, and come to school and see people dressed creatively.
In honor of our Vegas-themed Homecoming this week, many of the spirit days were based on Las Vegas. Monday was Beach Day at Mandalay Bay. One of the most common outfits I saw was swim trunks and Hawaiian shirts for the boys and bikinis with tube tops for the girls. It was a great way to start the week, getting people pumped for the week and bringing back a glimpse of summer.
Tuesday brought a flood of colors and interesting outfits throughout the school. The theme was wacky circus, and some people definitely understood the assignment. Not many people dressed for this day, but I did see a couple people wearing colorful patterned shirts and crazy socks.
Wednesday was probably the most fun day, a classic Torrance High School theme, dress as your type. I personally enjoyed this one the most because it was fun to see everyone dressed up for this day. I found it hilarious seeing girls styling jerseys and baggy pants, some accessorized with hats or glasses, and guys rocking crop tops. I heard from multiple people that this was the most fun day of the week because everyone’s type was expressed in a different way, and brought creativity and fun to the school.
Thursday was dress like a celebrity, and as expected, most people dressed like Adam Sandler. Baggy basketball shorts and oversized t-shirts were everywhere. Students told me that the reason Adam Sander outfits were so popular was because it’s an easy and comfortable way to show school spirit. Another common celebrity was Kim Kardashian. This outfit consisted of black and black sunglasses. This simple look was undeniably Kim’s signature outfit. The majority of people who dressed wore mainly jerseys and hats. This was a more plain idea, but also enough to represent a celebrity and school pride. These iconic celebrities definitely reflected the theme of Vegas.
Friday’s theme brought almost everyone in the school wearing their class color. People had their class color on shirts, hats, and many people had fun accessories to go with it, such as beaded necklaces, sunglasses, and face paint. Students’ class colors united grades together, and the sea of colors brought a brilliant close to the end of the week, and hyped everyone up for the rally that day. Overall, spirit week was an exciting way to prepare students for Homecoming, bringing creative ideas to Torrance High, and uniting students as one student body.
