This year’s Torrance High girls volleyball team is looking to rebound after last year’s team placed 4th in the Bay League. This season will definitely be different as the volleyball team lost some of their top players (Kalyssa Blackshear and Kiana Greer) last year’s top seniors, which shook up the team’s dynamic, requiring this year’s team to be more scrappy and start the rebuilding process. Without the help of last year’s seniors this year’s volleyball team will have to play to their best abilities. Senior Anissa Olivas hopes that as a senior this year she and the team can have fun and perform at their best level. This season will come with added challenges as the THS volleyball team is in the Bay League. Bay League is one of the top leagues for CIF sports where the competition and skill set is higher. Last year’s team is what got them here in the first place but now that core players have left, the competition might be more than what this year’s team can handle. Anissa states that, “It will be tough, but it’s fun”. Having fun while playing is a key factor on performance, so if the volleyball team can continue to have a positive attitude they might be able to rack up a couple more wins under their belt. Anissa has a big role in setting the positive tone throughout the team because as a senior, other players look up to her so if she has a positive attitude, then others around her will follow. She predicts and hopes that the team accomplishes beating El Segundo home and away because they are their best match-up skill-wise as well as take at least one set from Mira Costa and Redondo. Her personal goals for her last season here at Torrance High are to lead the team in stats overall and have fun and play her best in her last year here. So, as the season unfolds, all eyes are on THS to see if Anissa’s pre-season predictions are true and if they can overcome the challenges ahead.
