Torrance High Girl’s Flag Football has grown over the past couple of years, this program has seen success, challenges and learning lessons. The team has been held together by the grit of relentless high school girls, one of them being Maddie Schepp, the class of 2027 quarterback. As one of the team’s leaders, she brings energy, hard work, and skill to the field to maximize success for herself and this team throughout her 3 years in the Torrance High Flag Football Program. Schepp has made it clear that High School Flag Football is more than just playing catch, it is a place where she has created long-lasting memories.
When Schepp was asked about her most memorable moment while being on the team throughout her 3 years, she quickly responded with last year’s nail-biting game at El Segundo, “When we played ‘gundo’ last year, and I threw that touchdown to Daylin,” Schepp said. With less than 8 seconds on the clock, she threw a buzzer-beating ball into the end zone to wide receiver Daylin Nunez to win the first league game of the season, starting the team’s momentum to eventually win the Pioneer League, going undefeated with 8 wins and 0 losses. Her response being such a pressure-focused moment shows the competitive nature of not only herself as a player, but the Torrance Flag Football team as a whole.
This season, there were key senior receivers lost, but Schepp is confident that the team will still do what they need to by doing “well”, showing trust in her players despite the difference she has seen in lineups throughout the past couple of months, “We lost our seniors, but I am sure we will do well,” Schepp said. Along with her confidence are her goals she is hoping to achieve for the team and herself. She wants to focus on her skill set and the mechanics of her throwing, hoping to throw a spiral every single time she makes a pass. But for the team, there was no hesitation when she stated she wants to win Pioneer League and hunt down yet another undefeated season.
Being in the right head space before a game for Schepp is very important and she does this by simply listening to music. A simple ritual that can be overlooked but it is a necessity to lock in and focus on what must be accomplished to ultimately win the game.
Schepp describes the 2025 Torrance Flag Football team as “determined, fun and outgoing.” These adjectives describe the chemistry of the players on and off the field, while still showing the relentless attitude they bring every single day.
Schepp has great hopes for the future of this year’s 2025 flag football season, as it should be exciting, competitive and adrenaline pumping. Schepp’s leadership determination and desire to win sets the tone for the team. Fans should expect headlines to be made by this hungry Torrance Girls Flag Football team as they ambitiously chase their goals this year.
