Last Friday the Torrance Tartars faced the Santa Monica High Vikings in their senior night game and won with a 24-14 final score.
It was a great match up last week; Santa Monica were the first to score against the Tartars in the first quarter, coming from a long pass onto the 1-yard line, the Vikings rushed into the endzone for a touchdown (TD).
Then in the second quarter, with 5 minutes left Tartar quarterback Connor Shearing made a 8-yard rushing TD evening out the score. Still, soon after in the same quarter with less than a minute running back Malikai Johnson completed a 24-yard rushing touchdown pushing Torrance into the lead with a 14-7 score going into halftime.
In the second half, a Vikings’ wide receiver executed a 28-yard touchdown pass evening the score.
In the final quarter the Tartars got out in front of the Vikings; kicker Carlos Hudgins with a 34-yard field goal, and running back Vaughn Reinert with a 30-yard rushing touchdown for the final score of 24-14.
Moving on to their last season game the Tartars have their work cut out for them as they get ready to go against the North Saxons.
The Tartars are working hard to get better every day, still Johnson remarks that the job isn’t done one “after north, we will then switch to playoff mode and reaching our 16 week goal.”
