Every year, the Service League club is responsible for decorating the Homecoming dance. The dance is a multiple week-long ordeal involving careful planning, designing, and setup to have the gym ready for the event.
This year, the theme was New York, voted by students, and Service League members incorporated numerous icons from the city into their decorations.
“When I first walked into the gym I was amazed, like, wow, this is better than sophomore year and freshman year combined,” Says Cyrus Cuevas, a senior going to his last Homecoming dance in high school. “I really liked the vibe and the setting.”
This year’s Homecoming featured all the standard commodities: a photo booth, DJ, and faculty passed out cheesecake bites in the last half of the 3-hour dance.
Rachel Wong, the current Service League President who’s been in the club since she was a freshman, says: “It takes a lot of coordination with the group members…it takes a lot of communication and making sure everyone knows what they’re supposed to do.”
But even with all of the work they do, it lasts for only a few hours: “There’s so much work that goes into this,” Says Ms. Spradlin, better known as Spraddy to her students and Service League members alike. “Service League members are working for several weeks leading up to the dance making decorations, they spend 5, 6 hours putting them up so that the school can have a few hours of fun at Homecoming.”
Service League hopes all had a great time at this year’s homecoming and that many memories were made!
