If you are not yet aware, on September 26th, 2024, a deadly hurricane named Hurricane Helene made its way towards the Southeast of the US. The hurricane passed through a total of 6 states: Florida, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The devastating hurricane killed over 230 people, making it the deadliest hurricane since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Even a week after this disaster, hundreds across the Southeastern U.S. are still missing. This tragic event has left the area a disaster with many buildings damaged, flooded houses and streets, and people isolated and stranded without power, reliable service and supplies.
Hurricane Helene was a Category 4 hurricane that had winds that reached up to 140 mph when it reached landfall in Florida.
Only over a week after Hurricane Helene, yet another hurricane named Hurricane Milton hit Florida. Record warm temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico fueled the hurricane. Due to this hurricane, over 5.5 million people were advised to evacuate. The hurricane landed in Florida on Wednesday, October 9th as a Category 3 hurricane with winds over 100 mph. As of Oct. 10th, Hurricane Milton has left over 10 dead and over 3 million people without power in Florida. More flooding and mud has filled the streets of Florida and many more houses have been destroyed. Tropicana Field, which is home to the MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays, had the roof of their building torn off due to the hurricane.
Many celebrities like Dolly Parton have donated money to help those who have been affected by this tragic event.
